Instructor Spotlight: Rebecca

Learn more about Instructor & Owner of FIT4MOM Madison Rebecca.

Who are the members of your family and where are you originally from?

Hey, I am Mom to Chloe & Charlotte and wife to Greg. I grew up in England, born and raised just outside of Liverpool, then moved to London to start my career. Some years later I met my husband and we moved to the US (Northern Virginia) in 2016. In 2017 we found ourselves moving to Madison, and as they say, the rest is history.

What are 3 of your favorite things?

1. Sleep

2. Scuba Diving

3. Spicy food

You are given 4 hours of FREE babysitting. What would you do?

I would jump in the bath, and soak for at LEAST an hour while watching a mindless tv show. And let's keep it real- I'd probably spend more time than I needed to looking at IG reels and sharing them with my besties. Do I still have time to squeeze in a yummy meal and cocktail..because if so...that, lol!

What has being a mom taught you?

Being a mom has taught me grace. Before being a mom I had a very clear image of the kind of parent I was going to be. Spoiler alert: I’m not that mom lol and honestly…that’s OK. My days are chaotic, I often feel like a circus act spinning many plates, and as a result, I often fall into mom guilt mode. But my daughters love me. They give me grace in abundance, even if I’ve been preoccupied, stressed, and let’s face it probably on my phone too much.

What is your funniest or most embarrassing mommy moment so far?

I was taking a trip with my oldest daughter and at the time she was about 18months old. I had given her a food pouch, which like from a cartoon she proceeded to squirt up in the air, all over me, the aisle of the aeroplane, under the seat…bright orange baby food everywhere! The flight attendant was less than impressed and I was mortified. The plane and ME stank for the next 4 hours.

When was your first FIT4MOM class and what do you remember about it?

My first FIT4MOM class was in Northern Virginia back in 2016. I had just moved to the US and I was in desperate need of a community. I remember walking away giddy and excited at the possibility of new friendships.

Tell us your story about how/why you became an instructor?

I am by no means a naturally athletic person. I can honestly say I was ‘allergic’ to exercise in high school. But in my 20’s I found myself training for Triathlon events and I enjoyed a side hustle as a spin instructor for my office gym. Fast forward a few years I was a new mom and found a FIT4MOM group in Northern Virginia. FIT4MOM workouts became part of my daily routine. So when I was asked if I was interested in joining the instructor team I jumped at the challenge. I enjoyed 6 months on the instructor team with FIT4MOM LSBWK. In the summer of 2017, my family moved to Madison. I was lucky enough to have met the then owner of FIT4MOM Madison (Melissa) at a FIT4MOM training weekend earlier that year. Melissa welcomed me with open arms, both as a team member and also as a friend. When she found herself moving out of the area she passed the baton to me as the lead mama here in Madison. I genuinely believe that mine and Melissa’s paths were meant to cross, and I am so thankful that she trusted me with the amazing community she built here.

What is the BEST thing about being an instructor?

Witnessing the friendships that build. Whether that's a friendship between moms, or the kiddos. Raising children creates a special bond between people. You celebrate the highs and the lows together. So being able to bring people together is for sure the best thing about being an instructor.

What is your WHY? Why do you keep doing what you do?

FIT4MOM gave me purpose and strength during a very difficult part of my life. I found FIT4MOM at 6 weeks postpartum. I was a new mom, I had just recently moved to the US from England; leaving behind my family, friends, and career. I felt a long way from home and this feeling was then magnified with the loss of my Dad to cancer just a few weeks before my daughter was born. I felt lost. Then I found FIT4MOM, it gave me friendships, stability, purpose, and (later down the road) a newfound passion as a business owner. I want to pay this support and love forward to other families. I don't want any mom to feel alone.

What is your favorite class exercise?

Hmmmmmm so hard to choose. My favorite class exercise is a squat. Simple and effective, but versatile.

What is a fun fact that many may not know about you?

I have a postgraduate degree in War Studies. Next time you see me at class ask me about it ;)

Anything else you’d like Our Village to know?

I am so thankful for each and every one of you. I have learnt something from every mama that I’ve crossed paths with at FIT4MOM Madison. We are truly #bettertogether and #unitedinmotherhood.
