What is Diastasis Recti?

Knowing whether you have DRA or not is a big deal - especially as you embark on a postpartum fitness journey

Diastasis Recti Abdominis (DRA) is separation of the abdominal wall. We have a line of connective tissue that goes down the center of our body separating the muscle bellies of our rectus abdominis (the “six pack” muscle). "Diastasis" literally means separation, with "recti" referring to the rectus abdominis.

If the abdominal wall grows (e.g when growing a baby) it can cause Diastasis Recti. This a normal physiological change. But there are some things you can do to help during pregnancy and postpartum (yes, even years later) as well. We cannot prevent it, but we can prepare the body for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum healing by incorporating safe movements and exercises no matter your stage of motherhood.
